Rest.

Lately, I just don’t know. I’m tired.

Not just physically or mentally tired, but emotionally tired. It’s the kind of tired that a good night’s sleep won’t fix, the kind that is so deep in your bones that you can’t shake it off. Have you ever felt a combination of anxious and powerless and exhausted? And no amount of TV or salted caramel ice cream can get you back in the groove? That’s where I’ve been the past couple of months.

So I’m giving myself permission to do something radical, something truly restorative:

Rest.

I’m going to rest for a bit, so that I am able to keep going eventually.

If there’s one truth I know deep down, it’s that I really can’t pour from an empty cup.

If you feel this way right now, you are not alone. Spend time listening to your body, and pay attention to what you need. Practice a disciplined regimen of caring for yourself, taking walks, doing nothing for the entire weekend. Even treat yourself to a mini-vacation if you can, visiting a family member you haven’t seen in too long.

If you’re tired, it’s okay to rest.

If you’re exhausted, it’s okay to take a break.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s okay to withdraw for a bit, soothe your soul, and gather your strength.

When you’re ready, you’ll be back.

Holding you in the Light in the meantime, and hoping you’ll do the same kindness for me.
