Join us for #CareerServChat on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 12:30pm ET/9:30am PT
Welcome to #CareerServChat!
Welcome! Please share your name/pronouns, where you work or study, and where your internship or part-time job was while you were in college! Remember to finish each tweet with the #CareerServChat hashtag. Thanks for joining in!
The chat will last an hour and each question will be numbered (Q1, Q2, etc.). When you answer, begin each response with A1, A2, etc. The last 5 minutes are just for networking and resource sharing. Get ready for Q1 and remember the hashtag #CareerServChat.
Q1. Does your institution have a work integrated learning program, such as an internship program in which students take a course in conjunction with experiential learning or a co-op? If so, briefly describe what you offer. (Please answer as A1.) #CareerServChat
Q2. Does your institution (or any school at your institution) require completion of an internship in order to obtain a degree? If not, do you think it would be a good idea to make internships required? #CareerServChat
Q3. Finish this sentence: In order to be truly effective, a college or university internship program must provide ______ to students during or after their internship experience. #CareerServChat
Q4. At @MassasoitTweets (community college), interns don't get college credit, but they can take a non-credit internship course which appears on the student's transcript. (Ask @TuuliMcElroy for details!) Does your institution give college credit for internships? #CareerServChat
Q5. Most institutions that require internships focus on juniors, but at @EndicottCollege @GullsAtWork, first- AND second-year internships are required too. Yup, each student does 3 internships! Is this brilliant? Nuts? Both? (Ask @EHall725 his thoughts!) #CareerServChat
Q6. We would all like to see every employer #PayTheInterns, but for small nonprofits that's not always feasible. How does your institution help students afford unpaid internships? Do you offer funding for all unpaid interns, or do students apply & compete? #CareerServChat
Q7. What is the most innovative aspect of your institution's experiential learning program? If you can't articulate that very easily, what internship innovations would you like to implement at your institution in the future? #CareerServChat
