Welcome to #CareerServChat, everyone! Please share your name/pronouns, where you work or study, and… what is one fun thing you did this summer? Remember to include the #CareerServChat hashtag. Thanks for being here today.

Thanks to @PhilipW_GMU and @dorothyhayden of @masoncareer for guest hosting today! The chat lasts an hour. Each question is numbered (Q1, Q2 etc.) so respond with A1, A2 etc. The last 5 minutes are for networking & sharing links. #CareerServChat

Q1. In higher ed, summer is a time for planning, reflection, & goal setting. Of these, which strategic goal was your top priority this summer? #CareerServChat
A. supporting diverse student populations
B. improving advising
C. special projects
D. prioritizing goals
E. wellness

Q2. Initiatives that increase our awareness of diversity and inclusion are critical to our success. How did you work on building competency or participate in an event that helped you learn more about this area? #CareerServChat

Q3. Collaboration and relationship-building builds bridges and allows us all to succeed. What did you do to build partnerships over the summer? #CareerServChat

Q4. In career services much of what we do revolves around providing advice to students, alumni, faculty, and employers. What resources have you used recently to improve these skills? Do you have any results you’d like to share? #CareerServChat

Stretch break! Grab some tea, run a lap around the office, or just take time to say “hey, friend!” to the other participants of this chat! #CareerServChat

Q5: ‘S’ is for summer and for Special projects. What kind of special projects did you work on for the upcoming academic year? What new types of programs or initiatives do you hope to pilot in 2019-2020? #CareerServChat

Q6. When new programs are initiated, sometimes old programs must be discontinued. What programs that you’ve done in the past didn’t make the cut this year? What projects are going by the wayside so you can focus on new ones?  #CareerServChat

Q7: Two more questions to go! We’re saving the best question for last, because we are prioritizing. How do you prioritize projects now? Does that differ from in the past? Share any helpful systems or apps that you’ve found to manage your priorities. #CareerServChat

Q8: Wellness and well-being are essential to our own personal career management. How do you incorporate well-being into your work? #CareerServChat

Circle time! Share resources on this topic. Follow folks here and connect with ’em on LinkedIn. Huge thanks to @PhilipW_GMU & @dorothyhayden! Philip hosts #CareerServChat again in January to discuss strengths at work. Til then, check out his blog post: https://eacebridgesblog.wordpress.com/2019/05/24/thinking-about-strengths-in-the-workplace/

Finally, please join us on Wed. Sept. 11 for the next #CareerServChat. The topic is Supporting Neurodivergent Clients with Career Development, with guest hosts @robbinbeauchamp and @aspergersgirls. Such a great topic so save the date!
