Welcome to #CareerServChat!

Welcome to #CareerServChat! Please share your name/pronouns, where you work or study, and what you love most about winter break! Remember to finish each tweet with the #CareerServChat hashtag. Thanks for joining in!

The chat will last an hour and each question will be numbered (Q1, Q2, etc.). When you answer, begin each response with A1, A2, etc. The last 5 minutes are just for networking and resource sharing. Get ready for Q1 and remember the hashtag #CareerServChat.

Q1. If you work at a college or university, what size and type? Large, medium, or small? Public or private? Residential or mostly distance-learners and commuting students? Liberal arts or focused on technology or a particular industry? #CareerServChat

Q2. Some institutions have required courses that include a #CareerServices unit, meaning that nearly every student interacts with the career services office in some way. Does your university have that kind of requirement? #CareerServChat

Q3. Aside from in-office counseling and career fairs, what methods does your office use to reach students on campus? What types of outreach efforts do you typically engage in? #CareerServChat

Q4. Now for some candor, remember we’ve all been there! Which of the outreach efforts you have tried worked well? Which didn’t work as well? See any patterns that may give insight into what draws less-engaged students to your services? #CareerServChat

Q5. The next few questions will focus on your efforts to reach particular identities or affinity groups. If you haven’t targeted a group, feel free to share ideas for future programs. How do you try to engage shy, introverted, or socially awkward students? #CareerServChat

Q6. How does your program try to reach students who are commuters, distance-learners, and non-traditional age students? Do you have evening or weekend office hours? Do you have a student-run career studio? #CareerServChat

Q7. What do you do to reach #FirstGen students, underrepresented minority students, and LGBTQ students? #CareerServChat

Q8. Who are the most thoughtful voices in this aspect of the #CareerServices space that we should be listening to and learning from? Who is leading the way? Share in the weeks ahead with the hashtag #CareerServChat!
